Optimizing Patient care by becoming engaged in the session.

During my time at CSH, I have been observing with Interns who were not engaged at all during sessions and those who were active in PT sessions  I Learned from personal experience that in order to become involved in the session. You have to introduce yourse fby greeting the patient with a friendly tone and warm welco e. It is important also to introduce yourself and explain my role as an intern and how I am doing it in the work learning experience and scho .  When patients begins to open up and talk, it is essential to provide empathy and listen with internet. A patient or family member could be having a tough time and could need someone to lis en. When communicating back with patients,, it is important to talk with positive actions and postive advice. In addition I learned that if a patient is upset, you can ask them if they are okay or need anything. If the patient or family member does not respond and want to talk it is best to give them some space and be around incase they want to talk again

Strengthen Communication skills with co-workers and patients to provide information and solutions.

At my internship, there is a certain tone and attitude that is expected. I cannot talk to patients co-workers and my supervisors like they are my best friend, therefore during my time in this work environment I make sure to avoid a couple of things. One is to avoid slang and any kind of improper use of language. This can be seen as informal to patients and it is important to have a formal relationship between therpiist and a patient. In addition It is very important to avoid use of profanity and Vulgar language. Nothing is worse then having your boss and patients hear you talk about innaproiete studd. This could lead to problems with co-workers patients and could result in a termination of a position. Since this internship is around kids, it is very important to keep mindfulll since parents do not want there kid exposed to these kinds of words. In addition, it is important to be respcully of people race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, opinions and . It is vital to avoid anything that would affend any of these topics. When communicating with co-workers and supervisors its important to be direct and respectful. This way the work environment will be more effeint.

In the field of physical therapy and OT, every patients cant have the same exact treatment program as another patient. Therefore Therpist give there patients goals. These can range from 5 -10 goals usually for patients. These are to track the porgrss of the patient and help them over come obetsvales. Also Insurance needs to see these goals and progress in order to keep paying for part of the sessions. For patients, the goals need to be specific, achievable  easy to monitor. For example, a patient learning to walk they can start with the goal going from sit to stand without assistance. Then the goal can transform into standing for a long period of time and  after it can change crusing ( walking sideways). Once the therapist decides that the patient is ready they can try walking. In addition to making goals, It is important that there is a plan of care specific to the pateint. Each plan of care has exercise that will be prescribed to patients. So for a patient learning how to walk again, they will be prescribed lower extremity strength exercise. AN example of his kind of execriuse can be squats and lundges. As the patient progresses through the sessions, they can do more advanced exercise and stretches to maximize the benefits of PT or OT.

Understand the different goals of physical therapy depending on the condition of a patient
